Ramla Bay

Ramla Bay – in Maltese Ramla l-Ħamra – is the largest and most famous sandy beach in Gozo. Characteristic is the reddish-golden sand, which distinctly sets the bay apart from the predominantly rocky bathing spots on the island. Surrounded by largely undeveloped hills, Ramla offers a particularly beautiful combination of beach and nature.

The water slopes gently into the sea, and the large sandy area provides ample space for a classic beach day. This makes Ramla Bay popular with families as well. During the peak season, it can get quite crowded, so visiting in the morning or later in the afternoon is particularly worthwhile.

At the beach, you will find basic tourist infrastructure during the season, such as options for food and drinks, as well as sun loungers and umbrellas. Above the bay, there are also viewpoints from which you can enjoy an excellent view of the entire beach and the surrounding landscape.

In strong winds and rough seas, you should check the conditions before swimming. On calm days, however, Ramla Bay is one of the best spots in Gozo if you are specifically looking for a proper sandy beach instead of the island's typical rocky coves.
